If you are also struggling with the same problem that your sofa cushions consistently disturb you during family gatherings, then you don’t need to worry about it. In this blog post, we will provide you with the best DIY techniques and tricks that will definitely stop your sofa cushions from sliding and revive the layout of your living room sittings.
Discover the reasons for sliding sofa cushions
If you want a comprehensive solution to the problem of sliding sofa cushions then as a first step you need to find the reason behind the problem, so that you can also address the reason as a part of the solution. Living rooms are normally designed to enjoy quality time in the most casual or moody way, but if the living room sofas hurt your comfort zone then it is an alarming problem you must need to address. However, the following are the highlighted reasons that couldn’t stop your sofa cushions from sliding.
1. Extra smooth and soft fabrics
The fabric material and texture of your sofa cushions are among the underrated reasons that cause sliding of your sofa cushions. Let’s say your sofa belongs to silk-based sofa cushions which are very slippery and lack the necessary friction that helps sofa cushions to remain stuck with the sofa frames. The lack of necessary friction simply leads to the sliding of your sofa cushions. If the fabric belonging to your sofa cushions is non slippery then you can ignore this reason and try to find another one. First of all, try to avoid slippery fabric while shopping for sofas for your living room, but if it is compulsory because of your living room interior design then its solution will be discussed later in this blog post. 2. Putting up your feet when perching on the sofa
It is a commonly observed habit that people put up their feet while sitting casually on the sofa. So when they are sitting on the sofa their feet push the sofa cushions to slide from the original position. It normally happens when you sit on your sofa in an extra relaxing and casual position. In some cases sitting cushions are embedded with the back seats of sofas. It means if the sitting cushions are already attached to the back seats of the sofa then there is no chance of sliding your sofa cushions, it only happens when sitting cushions are separated from the back seats of the sofas. So if you want to avoid this problem then you need to control your body postures while relaxing on your sofa, which means you have to understand the difference between the use of a regular sitting sofa and a sofa bed.
Useful methods to stop sofa cushions from sliding
Interestingly these methods are easily applicable to keep cushions from sliding on outdoor sofas or couches. If you want to stop cushions from slipping of the rotten furniture, then first you need to repair the damaged part of the furniture whether it is a sofa, couch, or any other furniture item.
1. Use Frictional Pads
If you have a sofa where sitting sofa cushions and seat backs are separated from each other, then this is the easiest DIY solution to stop your sofa cushions from sliding. You just need to shop for nonslippery pads from the market and place these pads beneath your sofa cushions. The required number of pads is directly related to the number of sofa cushions, but if your sofa belongs to a single-piece sofa cushion then you can decide the number of pads according to the sitting capacity.
These nonslippery pads are capable enough to create reasonable friction and ultimately stop your sofa cushions from sliding. These nonslippery pads are available in different sizes so that they can fit well according to the size of your sofa cushions. Let’s say you have a customized sofa and you aren’t able to find the best-matched size of non-slipping pads then you can also cut these pads to adjust according to the size of your sofa cushions. These non slipping pads are usually not adhesive in nature and made with rubber material with enough capacity to create reasonable friction.
2. Use of Velcro
These are polyester or nylon-based strips and are normally used as making material for bags, kid’s shoes, and other relevant products. These hook and loop strips are also considered an effective way to stop sofa cushions from sliding. However, these strips are originally known as hook and loop strips or sofa cushion grippers but are also called Velcro which is actually a brand of this specific product. These strips are very easy to apply; you need to place one adhesive side with the sofa cushions and another adhesive side with frame of the sofa but at the same angle.
In the second and last step you just need to place back your sofa cushions on the frame of the sofa to lock these strips. Once these strips are locked then you can easily manage to keep your sofa cushions stick to their original condition. However, in today’s modern world, there are plenty of couch and sofa options with embedded Velcro strips in the market. This method is also effective in keeping couch cushions from sliding (DIY). 3. Use hook and ring to stop sofa cushions from sliding
This method is not very technical or tough to implement but requires a little effort. In this method, you need to shop for a duo of hooks and rings from the market. However, in this method, a little bit of hand-based sewing skill is required from you. So as an initial step, you have found two small pieces of fabric with a strong texture base like wool or leather, etc. In the second step, you are required to sew one piece of fabric with the hidden side of the sofa cushion and another piece with the frame of the sofa. In the third and final step, you just need to attach a hook to one piece of the cushion and a ring to the other price of the frame and connect them. You can repeat the same process with other sofa cushions if your sofa belongs to separate sofa cushions.
